I had another call from the guys in India pretending to be from Microsoft today. The general scam goes….they show you the event viewer with all its malware and corruption, then get you to download some remote access software so they can fix it and then hold you to ransom as they show you how broken your system is.

Its deplorable, they know they are crooks. The only reason it actually works is that people expect that theres something wrong with their Windows system.

Got a box today

I got into work today and the entire space under my desk was filled with one box. I was expecting a delivery but not something big enough to put both my kids in.

Inside, the box was filled with plastic packing pockets to fill the empty space. In the none empty space there where 8 smaller boxes. In those boxes where 2 plastic packing braces holding a plastic box. In the plastic box was a single 450Gb disk.

After unboxing all 8 disks, I went into the server room to put them in the netapp unit for use.

You may notice on the right hand side there are 2 black rectangles, these are the disk interfaces.

These are the interfaces on the disks

Apart from the slight problem of the interface on the disks being the wrong shape…they are on the bottom left of the disks, not the bottom right.

I have no idea how much we paid for these things (I don’t do the ordering or budgets), but looking on ebay they’re going for just shy of $1000 a piece.

…Oops….

TEST: How well do you see color?

BOO YAH.

The fact that I couldn’t figure out the test probably says something about me, right?

O_O I got a 4/100. 0 is perfect. I have nearly perfect colour acuity, and now I feel like a freak genius, and I want to SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS.

I scored a 9. I’m down with that.

I got a 7. I wanna meet this person who scored a 0!

4/100. Unlike during my stint in chemistry, I am proud to have a 4%.

Can’t pass up a color test. Scored a 0, which marks the first time I’ve ever been happy scoring a zero. :) I’m thinking most people who work in some form of the arts (esp with pantone chips) score low since you’re training your eye every day. Fun test for color nerds.
